Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Kuching Branch Chairperson,\u00a0Datuk Lily was shocked that a Member\u00a0of Parliament would even consider asking a rape victim to marry the\u00a0man who raped and took away her innocence.<\/p>\n

Lily said it was shocking that in this day and age, there are still\u00a0men living in medieval era who treated female as an object devoid of\u00a0feelings.\u00a0 This is really a terrible thing for a man, what more an MP\u00a0who represented Malaysians, to utter such words. This reflect badly on\u00a0the image of the Barisan Nasional and to UMNO. The Prime Minister must\u00a0look into this and ensure that the MP should not stand in the next\u00a0general election, she said.<\/p>\n

Tasek Gelugor MP a former Syariah court judge, Datuk Shabudin Yahaya had said in the Dewan Rakyat Tuesday that there is nothing wrong with a rape victim to marry the\u00a0rapist as some of 9 year old girl were physically and spiritually\u00a0ready for marriage.<\/p>\n

He was debating on the Sexual offence against Children Bill 2017 and stated that\u00a0with marriage, the rapist would serve as a remedy and also to curb\u00a0social problem. He added that this would give\u00a0the victim a second chance to turn a new leaf in life.<\/p>\n

Yong pointed out that the cruel statement from Shabudin showed that he\u00a0is not aware of the trauma faced by the rape victims and to force her\u00a0to live with a person who had taken her by force. She said even if\u00a0there is so-called “consensus” on her part, she would be too young to take\u00a0on such heavy responsibility meant for an adult. And rapists\u00a0should know that a rape is a rape and that is a criminal offence.<\/p>\n

“For a rapist, justice should be served to\u00a0 him as he has destroyed a\u00a0young girl childhood. The statement from Shabudin is irresponsible as\u00a0a leader in BN, he is sending a horrifying message to the younger\u00a0generation that it is alright to rape as long as you marry the girl.\u00a0Yes, and after marriage, they would discard the girls like a broken\u00a0toys or subject them to a life-long misery. Can Shabudin prevented\u00a0that?<\/p>\n

Thus, it is important that MP should think carefully before they\u00a0speak. In our technology world, what was said would be beamed to the\u00a0whole world and it is an embarrassment to the PM that he has such poor\u00a0standard of MP in his team. I think he should apologize and step down.\u00a0That would be a remedy for women’s feelings that he has hurt,” she\u00a0added.<\/p>\n
