{"id":1463,"date":"2014-04-05T18:44:04","date_gmt":"2014-04-05T10:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=1463"},"modified":"2014-04-06T15:31:11","modified_gmt":"2014-04-06T07:31:11","slug":"telephone-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=1463","title":{"rendered":"Telephone scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telephone scam is coming back and SUPP Central Women Chairman Amy Tnay and her Secretary Ling Ngar Yieng are urging the public to be more alert when they receive calls from bank officers and try to avoid making hasty decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe advise the general public to be cautious and try to verify with the relevant authorities, especially when the caller identified him or herself as bank officer saying that transactions had been charged to your credit card, it is over limit or a transaction is pending for your approval and you need to contact a specific number given by the so-called \u2018bank officer\u2019 which was said to be Bank Negara\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Tnay and Ling, if the \u2018targeted prey\u2019 denied that he\/she had charged any transaction into his\/her card, or if he\/she had no credit card, the \u2018bank officer\u2019 would then tell him\/her that someone might have used his\/her identity to apply for a credit card and immediate action should be taken to stop or cancel the transaction which consequently, the \u2018targeted prey\u2019 would be convinced to contact the number he\/she was given.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018bank officer\u2019 would tell you that Bank Negara could only stop future transactions but you would still need to clear the previous outstanding balance or else you would be black-listed and thus, would not be able to travel overseas. Most people got panic and followed whatever instructions the \u2018bank officer\u2019 gave them and when they realized something was not right, a large sum of money had already gone into the scammer\u2019s bank account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The telephone scam is coming back to strike the vulnerable public again. Just a couple of days ago, a Chinese businessman in Sibu fell prey to the scam and lost nearly five thousand ringgit.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who received telephone calls from either 03-21788888 or 03-44551932 should definitely stay highly alert as those were the two numbers some of the public had been receiving recently.
