There are two major drain upgrade projects running concurrently at Bintawa Kuching since the beginning of August 2016. According to local community leader Kapitan Liu, the last major drain upgrade at Bintawawas done in 1990s. Bintawaresidential area is one of the areas in Kuching facing flood issue when there is a heavy downpour couple with high tide. Some drains are damaged due to lack of repair, and overgrown vegetation and still water encourage inbreeding of mosquitoes. The projects will bring great improvement to the drainage problem facing Bintawa.<\/p>\n<p>The drain projects that are currently on going in Bintawa areas are not without issues. According to the contractor, careful planning and excavation are required as there are utility cables and some residential extensionswhich make building the new drains challenging.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cr. Kho, drain upgrade at certain section of the drain can cause runoff and clog at another section. Therefore, inspection of the project progress is needed so as to identify the impact of the project to other areas of the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>Cr. Kho reiterated that to maintain a clean living environment required the local community to work with local authorities. These drain upgrade projects are a result of the collaboration between local community and city council.\u00a0 Residents and council are both responsible in maintaining the cleanliness of our neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s work together to build a better living environment,\u201d urge Cr.
