Politically Sexy to Whom and Perilous to Whom?<\/p>\n

” I am not surprised because no \u201cMalayan\u201d or “Malayan Opposition Parties” will ever understand the minds of true Sarawakians” says Dato’ Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew in his reply to the statement made by YB for Batu Lintang See Chee How, on Dr Sim\u2019s demand that the word \u201cstate\u201d be dropped.<\/p>\n

Ting said the learned ADUN for Batu lintang should read Annex A, Part II, Section 4(2) of the Malaysia Agreement 1963, where it says the Federation is made of the States of Malaya, the Borneo States and in its original version the State of Singapore. ADUN Batu Lintang should be able to differentiate the\u00a0 English usage of capital \u201cS\u201d and lowercase \u201cs\u201d. The Malaysia Agreement 1963 never refers to the states of Kedah, Penang or Perlis instead it refers to the \u201cStates of Malaya.\u201d<\/p>\n

We should also continue to read the Part II Section 4(3) of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 where the \u201cState\u201d were territories defined before \u201cMalaysia Day\u201d, again these were not in reference to Kedah, Penang or Perlis but refer to the whole of Malaya, States of Borneo and the State of Singapore.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the States of Malaya here refers Malaya as one \u201cRegion\u201d or one territory because that was the boundary for Malaya before \u201cMalaysia Day\u201d For the information of all,\u00a0 the Malaysia Constitution before 1976 was exactly as it appeared in Annex A, Part II of the Malaysia Agreement. Those amendments in 1976 were made by Parliament but\u00a0 without the consent of the respective Sarawak and Sabah legislatures.
\n\u201cDr Sim\u2019s statement, Inter alia, was asking for those rights and entitlements as contained in the Cobbold Commission, The Inter-Governmental Committee Report, Malaysia Act 1963
\nand Malaysia Act 1963 (chapter 35)\u00a0 be returned to Sarawak”\u00a0 says Ting.<\/p>\n

Therefore, what Dr Sim is doing will not hamper any efforts for the return of autonomous power to Sarawak, instead it may speed it up. We should all speak up for the best interests of Sarawak and for the best interests of all Sarawakians.<\/p>\n

It is with this in mind, I would like to urge all Sarawak YBs irrespective of the political divides, to rally together, be united and speak in one voice so that we can reach our destination of achieving our autonomy journey in the very near future.<\/p>\n

On the contrary, open and political bickering for political mileage on this important subject of Sarawk Autonomy will not help our cause.<\/p>\n
