Asking them to think ‘outside the box’ Dr. Sim jokingly said he will cut their gaji (pay) and considered them irrelevant.

Appointed recently to the Ministry, Dr. Sim who was launching the celebration of the Gawai celebration for the MBKS staff at the lobby yesterday did not mince with his words when he said, “Do your homework, if not I do the homework, I will cut their gaji (pay). I want them to perform and not me to do the work for them. If that is the case, I have to do extra work for them. I do not want to hear of complaints. I want you to find solution and if you want me to support, I will,” he said when asked by reporters after the launching.

Dr. Sim said if he were to know so much of the problem faced by the city council, then he may as well be the Mayor.

He called to the Council Senior staff to sit down and find a solution to the problems faced by the people. He pointed out that according to the Council by-law 1963, there were many laws that were not relevant for today.

Asking them to go and study the law and if the law is not good, propose to me and we will get it amended. “If there is no money, I will help there. You complain the law is so old but do nothing. That means, you have not been doing your job,” he added.

Citing an example that in every city counci, there should be a Public Health department but in the three city councils of MBKS, Kuching City North (DBKU) and Padawan, he said there was none so how could the councils take care of the health of the citizens.

In Penang, he said a doctor was heading the public health section in the city council so he said Sarawak city councis should have too. He wants Sarawak to get as good facilities as those in Federal councils and not to be treated as a second class council.

Dr. Sim said it is his job to go and ask for funds or hired staffs and to ensure that all councils’s facilities are on par with each other to carry out their tasks efficiently. He added that the money he obtained should be well spend for jobs done and not wasted.

Minister of Local Council, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian gave a stern reminder to the staff of Kuching City South council (MBKS) to buck up as he wanted to see their KPI in six months.
