The only hindrance preventing the RM378 million Sarawak General hospital car park from materialising was the implementation of the GST, revealed Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian yesterday at Masja.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sim who is also the President of the Sarawak United Peoples\u2019 Party (SUPP) was taking over the duty as the Minister of Local Government \u00a0from Dato\u2019 Sri Wong Soon Koh, said at the time of the negotiation, the cost did not included the 6%\u00a0 GST as it was not implemented then.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that \u00a0due to the implementation of GST, the additional cost could be about RM26 million. So who is going to absorb that. If it were 1 percent, the contractor would have absorbed the cost. Maybe, the RM20 plus million is the profit of the contractor so why would he want to do a project for free,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sim said a week before the election, he had written to the Prime Minister who is also the Finance Minister on the issue. He believed that the PM would know how best to tackle the issue.<\/p>\n

Saying that he has no idea when the project would start or be completed, Dr. Sim said the thing is now for the PM to make a decision.<\/p>\n

He agreed that those who go to the SGH were frustrated by the shortage of parking as he himself who used to work there understood the feelings.<\/p>\n

On the Sri Aman hospital, he disclosed tht the contract has been signed and there was an agreement on when the hospital must be completed. He said, as Minister of Local government, he would continue to monitor the issues.<\/p>\n

On the appointment of councillors and community leaders and those who were from non SUPP party, Dr. Sim said the Ministry will look into the appointment. \u201cAs I have said often, if you work hard, you do not have to worry. As long as you have a good track record, there is no worry about your job.<\/p>\n
