Dato’ Seri Tiong press release

Bintulu, 03 February: The Member of Parliament for Bintulu, cum special envoy to the Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing JP, is disappointed that his earlier statement of the people’s opinions on the appointment of local councillors and community leaders were seen as carried out in a “dictatorial” manner, and was merely treated as an allegation by the minister.

Tiong when contacted today, reiterated that his earlier press statement at the Miri BN fellowship night, organized by SUPP, was in fact aimed at voicing out the numerous views on the grounds over the appointments.

“Yet, it seems that certain leaders from the state BN have failed to heed the long neglected grouses and still losing their sensitivity even after the land-slide loss to retain the majority of Chinese seats continuously in the State or general election”

He said component parties of the ruling BN will surely allocate a quota to nominate their candidates for such post through the state Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, yet how should one explained that such posts are being retained by non-BN component YBs?

“For SPDP, we are surely disappointed that our party candidate list for the constituencies of G4 or so called G5 are all wiped-out”

“There is a need to ensure component parties should show mutual respect of comradeship in the state BN so as to maintain unity, harmony and solidarity ”

“By doing these, it is as if encouraging individual YBs to stand out with their own agenda to fight against the state BN component parties, while these G4 or G5 has been long known their membership in SPDP terminated following the party’s disciplinary action!”

Tiong regretted that such irresponsible action of the minister had been “pushed” to the Chief Minister, State Cabinet as well as the President of SPDP Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom instead.

“We cannot tolerate that our party President has been made a “scape-goat”, by even hinting that he had agreed in the cabinet meeting”

This has also indirectly tarnished the image of our other leaders and have to shoulder any blame from the public for failing to fulfill his duties in a fair and just manner.

“Please bear in mind that if one tries to create problem in other’s house, he should not regret or be angry when others do the same thing to him in future!”

Tiong stressed that he is an ordinary man, not staying in a “glass house”, or in certain political leader’s “noble house” or “high class house”, where one remains aloof, unreachable or described as snobbish by people on the ground.

“It is high time to rectify the public’s feeling of discontentment, instead of continuing with the party crisis, using it as an agenda for power. The Chinese community had enough of it.”

“By “bulldozing” through or passing the blame to others in any crisis, that is not the right attitude of a responsible Minister.”

“If a leader continues to fail to rectify the people’s problem, any action in the future, even it is in doing the right thing, will not be recognised, as one’s image had been tarnished! ”

He said the issue of the appointment of the various posts has long been swept underground. The ministry concerned should carry out a referendum on how the Sibu people, and other neutral parties, perceive the appointment of the deputy chairman of Sibu Municipal Council.

“I am only voicing out the public’s opinion, I am not fighting for my own political mileage, nor do I have any interest to be appointed to the post of community leaders or councillor.”

“In my Bintulu constituency I have been proposing and suggesting eligible candidates from the ground whose contribution are well acknowledged, while a lot of them are not from SPDP.”

“These phenomena have been pro-longed for the past six to seven years, and I wonder what will happen if only candidates from the BN are the only one proposed?

“The state election will be two years from now. As member of BN, one should minimise or at least try their best to solve all the outstanding issues, by proving their sincerity, management skills and the ability to gain back all the losing support, especially from the grass root”

“Of cause we can’t please or satisfy everyone but a successful leader is one who will gain the support of the majority .”

In fact, Tiong felt that an indicator of Chinese rebellious votes is their long outstanding discontentment. This have been indicated in the state election two terms ago. The “winds of change” had in fact blew from East to West (the peninsular).

In the Peninsular, one of the biggest ruling party (UMNO) has been facing party squabbling before, but yet managed to retain and regain the support of Bumiputra voters. Certain Chinese parties or leaders however, still failed to heed the people’s opinion and views.

“I do not wish to question why the loss of a two-third majority, but it is best to seek for solutions before it is too late”.

He stressed that one should not use other leaders in component parties as a stepping stone merely for his own political gains, or even to divert public attention from the main issue.
