A good potential for Sarawak tourism

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural to include Sarawak in their program as there are a lot of potential for Sarawak, said Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian.

Dr. Sim who received an answer from the Ministry was informed that from the year 2002 to 2017, there was a total of 33,490 applicants from 126 countries through such program.

China headed the list with 8,785, Japan 4,242, Bangladesh 3564, Britain 2416, Iran 1,337, Singapore 1,301, Taiwan 1215, Korea 1242, Pakistan 1018, India 897 and other 7,473.

Last year, he was told the program brought in a total of RM3.2 billion for Malaysia through properties sold, education, medical and investment.

The more popular states for foreigners are Selangor, Johor, Penang and Wilayah and Malaysia is the sixth choice for foreigners in the world with many coming from countries in Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Colombia for this year.

In a Japan survey “Japan Longstay Foundation”, Malaysia was picked as the favourite destination from Asia.

Expressing his sadness that Sarawak was not portrayed, Dr. Sim said he will discuss with the cabinet on more involvement for Sarawak.

Dr. Sim who is the Minister for Local government and Housing, he said he hoped to have more homes build to cater to the needs of the foreigners as a form of investment for Sarawak.

On another issue, the Transport Ministry has agreed to have more funding for Miri airport to have more parking there.

And for the Miri hospital, he said the tender has been out in April this year. As a watching brief on the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sim said he will continue to monitor these projects as the implementation is through JKR.

On the numbers of senators, Dr. Sim said there should be more for Sarawak to speak out the issues for Sarawak. He said at the moment, there are only 3 from Sarawak out of 70.
