Reporting an accident within 24 hours

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) was recently approached by a women residing in Kota Sentosa area who requested for his assistance for lodging a police report on an accident that occurred in Muara Tuang.

On her way home from Muara Tuang to Kota Sentosa, a motorcar had knocked the rear of the car she was driving. However, the driver of the motor car that knocked into her car did not have a valid road tax and insurance.   The woman proceeded to Samarahan Police Station to lodge a police report but the policeman on duty discouraged the women from lodging the report for various reasons.

Following the woman’s request for assistance, she was brought to the One Stop Police Centre at Simpang Tiga, Kuching to lodge a report to record the actual situation. Following the police report at the One Stop Police Centre at Simpang Tiga, the woman proceeded to Samarahan Police Station and did not have any problem lodging her report.

Members of the public are reminded that anyone involved in an accident  must immediately lodge a police report not later than 24 hours after the accident to prevent any problems, in particular with insurance claim. The  policeman on duty at any police station in Malaysia have no power or authority to refuse to accept a police report.
